Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2020

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Solicitor General's 1,830 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $222,983,940.32 in 2019.

Topping the list for the Solicitor General was Chief Coroner Dirk Huyer, who brought home $424,830.54 in 2019.

Following Dirk Huyer was Chief Forensic Pathologist Michael Pollanen, with annual earnings of $413,792.21. Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist Jayantha Herath made $400,387.71, Deputy Chief Coroner James Sproule made $392,578.30, and Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist Kristopher Cunningham round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $387,890.26 for the Solicitor General 2020 Sunshine List.
